The Company

This Swansea based manufacturer of packaging used in the FMCG sector are currently looking for a Maintenance Technician to join the Engineering and Maintenance team.

The Role

This is a permanent full time position working a 40 hour week. The successful applicant will work Monday - Friday on rotating shifts 6AM - 2PM, 2PM - 10PM, 10PM - 6AM.

The role will have a focus on Mechanical repairs and maintenance but basic electrical knowledge and experience is also required. Duties will include

  • Undertake Planned Maintenance schedules and machine breakdown repairs
  • Utilise the maintenance software package to record engineering data
  • Undertake repairs to general site, buildings and supporting plant
  • Work closely with the Production department to improve up time, reliability and efficiency's
  • Undertake installation work for new products, processes and equipment
  • Assist the Shift Supervisor in providing information for technical and incident reports
  • Provide holiday and sickness cover for shift colleagues
  • Ensure you proactively maintain your levels of training and competency and organise courses as appropriate to fulfil completion of work tasks
  • Assist with the preparation of all appropriate Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments
  • Ensure all equipment, tools and PPE are adequately maintained
  • Pro-actively support the business by offering advice and suggestions for improvement opportunities where appropriate
  • Work closely with all facets of Engineering to provide timely solutions to process issues
  • Support in the development of skills to team members and other departments
  • Engage in site projects from concept to completion, attending meetings providing supporting data and advice
  • Maintaining records as appropriate/required
  • Compliance with all H&S policies and procedures.
  • Promoting an awareness of everyone's Health, Safety & Environmental responsibilities.
  • Support Engineering Manager in completion and review of Risk Assessments
  • Manage Contractors & Supplier in line with the Company Procedures
  • Follow the company Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ensuring that all hazards, risks and Incidents are reported and that corrective actions are completed
  • Assisting and participating in incident investigations
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping & hygiene in accordance with the company's policies
  • Ensure that at all times relevant HSE guidelines are adhered to, undertaking compliance audits; pro-actively driving Near Miss and unsafe act/conditions reporting
  • Attending HSE meetings as required
  • Attending appropriate training courses as required

Requirements

  • The jobholder will ideally be a time-served apprentice, with a minimum of HNC engineering qualification, or relevant experience.
  • He/she will have had at and have a comprehensive knowledge of mechanical engineering and basic electrical, as well as manufacturing processes
  • The ideal candidate will have the 18th edition electrical C&G certificate or be willing to complete the course
  • PLC systems knowledge required Omron, Allen Bradley, Siemens S5/S7 (not essential)
  • Experience in metal printing processes would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of Food Safety & Hygiene Requirements
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team or on own initiative
  • Able to interpret and follow company procedures
