My client:
My client is a privately owned bakery business based in Llantrisant, South Wales. They are a business built on hunger for growth. They have successfully increased turnover substantially in just a few years, with capacity to continue this impressive growth.
The role, Night Shift Manager:
The role of the Night Shift Manager will be to manage, maintain and develop staff and machinery in a manner that will ensure the team consistently achieve the targeted levels of performance, in the most cost-effective manner.
Role and responsibilities include:
- To provide outstanding leadership, continuously challenging, innovating and improving performance in all production & packing areas
- To be the overall responsible person for the night shift function, which includes the bakery and packing areas
- To oversee production and packing, maintain highest standards of quality and safety, improve efficiencies facilitate all product launches
- In the event of any shift manager vacancies, to provide shift cover during the recruitment stage
- To take full responsibility to ensure customer service levels are fulfilled
- Strive to hit ATP and take corrective action as necessary
- Take full responsibility for the achievement of the shift production plan and ensure clear and timely communication of any service issues
- Publish hourly line efficiency information for each line on the packing notice board
Health and Safety
- To take full responsibility for site health and safety
Quality
- To drive continuous quality improvement through the teams in the bakery and packing areas
- To embed and proactively manage the site's food safety structure
- To ensure compliance to the site's food safety, quality, and integrity procedures.
- To ensure there is an excellent standard of GMP and the general maintenance within the bakery and packing areas at all times to ensure the department is 'audit ready' every day
- To ensure that the any machine faults or required area maintenance are recorded as per the QA traceability procedure, any deviation from the target range on temperature and broken glass/plastic must be reported to the Technical or Engineering Managers
- To ensure that all the company Quality Control Documentation / systems and procedures are adhered to in the department while ensuring all safe systems of work are followed within your area of responsibility by both you and your team
People
- To take full responsibility for all people management activities including absence management, discipline, grievances. To determine and ensure the achievement of the skills & training requirements of the team to fulfill current and future business needs. To lead coach and motivate the team to achieve individual and departmental development
- Provide coaching and support to your team on HR policy and employee relation matters
- To ensure that all employees under your supervision put Health and Safety first
Factory Performance
- Ensure targets are met for both labour cost % and absolute labour cost.
- Evaluate and implement all seasonings to be decanted into seasoning room with the intention of eliminating all packaging from seasonings, pastes and fluids entering the bakery.
- To have a particular focus on the accurate recording of agency usage and spend. Look for ways to effectively manage and minimise this cost
- Manage and actively reduce wastage and giveaway to set agreed targets.
- Work closely with Engineering to ensure all kit is maintained to high standards and any corrective actions for equipment repair are fully recorded and communicated.
- Supervise the end of shift routine so that walk-away standards are acceptable, clean-as-you-go has been effective, leftover materials have been put away, and waste has been processed appropriately. Ensure all process paperwork is collected and handed in correctly
- Any other reasonable request from Senior Management
